Hi, by default whatsapp will send you SMS to verified your phone number to be use as whatsapp identity. So, you have to register the same phone number with your GSM card that you use at your Nokia 305. But if you register different GSM number which available at different phone for Whatsapp, then you still will received the SMS verification to that phone which use last GSM number that you have wrote for Whatsapp registration, the SMS contain number and put that number to your Nokia 305 Whatsapp.

Hi, first you need to make sure one more time that your data mobile is active at your Nokia Asha 305 from Setting > Connectivity > Mobile data > Mobile data, choose to ON. Also make sure your GSM simcard Internet package has active. You can try to use other GSM simcard which is already have Internet connection as well. If your GSM simcard is fine, then you need to consider doing hard reset or master format.
