  • I need to hard reset my lumia 520.2...
This reset would work under normal circumstances, however,
My power button(the actual little inside button) has come unsoldered.
So, the only solution I had was to either open the phone at great risk of permanently damaging/destroying the phone further,
or trying to connect the circuit the button did (by fishing the hole with a tiny screwdriver) so obviously I chose the latter.

What I need to know is this:
How on earth can I do this?
I have tried with only partial success.
I found the 4 solder points, which are two pairs of connected nodes, and they work to turn the phone and screen on and off, but, I cannot seem to (time) it properly to work the reset, or I am not hitting it right when I do.

Is there ANY possible way to fix this or improve my odds, at very least?

    • Hi, we are sorry to know your Nokia Lumia 520 button problem. But for make it sure, we are suggest to bring your Nokia Lumia 520 to nearest Nokia official service center to get fix for that button if available. The worse case if the button can not fix by their expert, then they will suggest other solutions liek change the board or something like that.

  • HI, I have used the hard reset option and it was helpful of you to provide this solution.

I also want to know whether there is any way in which I can recover my old data as I was not able to take a backup before resetting the mobile.

  • after updating to wp 8.1 developer preview ,,my battery is draining at high speed and phone is getting too warm ,,should i do reset ,,i am afraid to brick my phone

    • Hi, unfortunately we never try the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview version at Nokia Lumia 520. But if your battery drain problem is very bothering you, then you should try to do hard reset, because that option should be ok at developer preview.

    • Hi, please try to login from web to make sure your Microsoft username and password is correct. If everything work normal from web, then you should try to make sure the Internet data work properly at your Nokia Lumia 520. The hard reset or master format is the last try if you still can not access Microsoft account from this phone.

I switched off my phone and turned it back on still the same . Of course your important data will be erase or wipe from your Nokia Lumia 520. But you also can not access all data when your phone get trouble, right?

However, if you have activated Microsoft account at your Nokia Lumia 520 and keep the default synchronize, then you can try to check some data at Microsoft server using your computer or other web browser, login with the same account with Nokia Lumia 520 and find what data that have already backed up there. The Skydrive or Onedrive account also could synchronize some important data from your Nokia Lumia 520 to Microsoft cloud server. Hopefully you still can have some important data although you do hard reset your phone.

  • I forgot my lockscreen password and i tried many of times and it has like 941 minutes left. And i really can't do the reset because my power buttons broken.. Is there another way to reset it?

Short of throwing it against the wall, what else can I do? I have even tried taking the battery out. No luck. Thanks for your help in advance.

  • Hi,
My phone memory is down to like 1000 mb remaining out of the total 8gb allotted.I have tried removing previously downloaded apps still it has not more than 1.04 GB remaining, I worry I may not be able to download the 8.1 update due to low memory, there are like 730 mb temporary files which do not get deleted. So I was hoping should I do a reset to bring it back to its original 7-8 GB space. Will it help?

Otherwise what do u recommend to increase the phone memory space since I do not have so many apps and store photos and other music media on a SD card.

    • Hi, you should know the limitation of internal memory at Nokia Lumia 520. Some applications will keep the data at internal memory as well. Because we do not know the exact size left at phone and size needed for Windows Phone 8.1 for your Nokia Lumia 520, then we suggest to try update from Windows Phone 8 to Windows Phone 8.1. If some situations at your Nokia Lumia 520 does not accordance the requirement of Windows Phone 8.1, then it will give the information before processing, therefore nothing to loose to try. Basically windows Phone already prepare for limited internal memory at Nokia Lumia 520. The last option if your update does not work, then you need to consider doing hard reset or master format and continue with Update to Windows Phone 8.1
